Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service
HALAS Inc. has proudly offered emergent medical service to the Hollidaysburg area since 1939. Currently HALAS provides 24 hour Advanced Life Support from headquarters on Scotch Valley road in Hollidaysburg and from two sub-stations—one at the Meadows intersections (Hollidaysburg) and one in the borough of Martinsburg. Our fleet includes six ambulances, one paramedic response vehicle, two bikes and one wheelchair van.

HALAS employees are trained above the state level requirements and have the experience needed to be a leader in emergency medicine standards.

HALAS employees are excited and proud to be able to treat patients with cutting-edge technology and training.

Some of the cutting-edge equipment used by our employees:

• Life-Pak 12 defibrillators with 12-lead monitoring
Used to identify heart rhythm and presence of acute myocardial infarction (Heart Attack)

• Pulse Oximetry
Used to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood

• Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
Used to increase pressure in the lungs, which assists during certain cases of shortness of breath

• Mobile Ventilator for long distance transports
Used to provide breaths to a ventilator dependant patient

• End Tidal CO2 Detectorss
Used to detect the presence of CO2 in the exhaled breath

In 2002 HALAS and our sister company EMRS (Emergency Medical Resource Service) began offering non-emergent wheelchair and stretcher transports for the residents of Blair County. We currently offer round-the-clock non-emergency transport for many activities and occasions that a wheelchair dependant person may not be able to reach in a car. This non-emergent service can be scheduled to transport customers to family functions, Doctors appointments, in-patient services, home from the hospital, to the airport for vacation…anywhere you want to go with your wheelchair.
